Twenty-Something

Yesterday was my 29th birthday! I can't believe I am one year away from the big 3-0!! Now I know that 30 is not old, but I never really pictured myself being anything other than "twenty-something."

I have absolutely loved my twenties, and I think that is why I will be so sad to see them go. I can honestly say that these past 9 years have been some of the best days of my life! Let's take a look back...

Twenty:
I don't really remember turning 20 or being 20. I was in my second year at USI. I am pretty sure I was living back at home when I was 20. I don't think I was very happy during this time of my life for one simple reason... his name began with a W. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING!!

Twenty-one:
I remember turning 21 like it was yesterday. I had my first margarita at Hacienda, and then we went to the boat to do a little gambling. I remember winning $13.00 at a slot machine. Later on we went out to Harpole's to celebrate my birthday. By this time most of my good friends were already 21. Here is a funny story from that night. Leslie (the friend that introduced Adam and I) was with me that night. She was really good friends with Adam and his roommate Aaron. They just happened to be at Harpole's on the night of my birthday, and Leslie introduced me to both of them. Little did I know about 6 months down the road Leslie would introduce me to Adam again, and the rest would be history!

I had a rough start to 21. It started out with a pretty bad breakup. It was the best thing that could have ever happened to me, but I took it pretty hard. All I can remember is how sad and unhappy I was. I quit the job I had been working at for five years and started a new one at Donut Bank. Luckily, I had the summer off from school so I didn't have to deal with that. In July, 2003 I met Adam. Leslie and I were getting ready to go out (to Harpole's) and she invited him to go with us. Before he came over she showed me his picture and told me that he was the type of guy you would marry. We met that night, went on our first date the next night, and have been together ever since!

Twenty-two
I think 22 was one of the best years of my life.  Adam and I were together and happy. I was in my junior year at USI. Alison and I had the same major so we had every single class together. I wouldn't have made it without her. On the weekends (when it was warm) we would grill out at Adam and Aaron's apartment with friends, and then go out to Chilly Willy's or Fast Eddy's.  It was such a care free time in my life. I wouldn't trade the memories I have for anything in the world.

In July of 2004 Adam and I moved in together at Copper Creek. We both loved that apartment. My best friend lived in the same building. Both of Adam's best friends lived in the building across the street. I have tons of great memories from those two years at that apartment!

A few days before my 23rd birthday Adam and I got engaged!!

Twenty-three:
This was a year with a lot of change.  I graduated from college a couple months after turning 23. Alison and I went to Florida to celebrate our graduation!  I started a new job two weeks after graduation. It was definitely not a job that I was thrilled about, but I had to take it. I was going to work as a caseworker with families that had their children taken away. The new job brought lots of new responsibilities. I started paying all of my own bills. My carefree days were over!

On the way to and from Florida Alison and I got a flat tire. On the way there we were in the middle of nowhere in Alabama. Luckily, when the tire blew we were right by an exit ramp. I don't know why, but we were both laughing hysterically. We pulled into a gas station and asked the first guy we saw if he would change our tire. He did, and he told us where we could get it fixed. We back tracked about 20 miles and found the hole in the wall mechanic. I got a new tire while in Florida, and on the way home we THOUGHT we were good to go. We pulled into a gas station before we got to Nashville to get gas. My heart sank when Alison noticed we had a flat tire on the new tire I just had put on that morning! Someone had to be looking over us, because the gas station we were at serviced semi's. Alison went in to ask if they could take a look at our tire. A scary guy comes out, gets our tire, and plugs it for free. We had to find someone to put it on for us since neither of us knew how to change a tire. Alison went in the gas station and finds a nice man (in dress clothes) to put the plugged tire on for us. We made it home safe and sound. I know both of us will never forget this trip as long as we live:)

The beginning of wedding season!

Adam and I got married!! 2/4/06

I was maid of honor in Leslie's wedding!

Twenty- four:
Adam and I bought our first house! We moved in May, 2006. In August we brought home our first baby, Elliott. He was such a great addition to our little family!

Alison and I traveled to Las Vegas a few weeks before I turned 25. It was my first time to Vegas and my first time on an airplane. We had an awesome time. I am so thankful we decided to go on this trip:)

Twenty-five:
We added another member to our family this year. On a whim we decided to get Brody. He was such a great addition to our family, because Elliott needed a brother and playmate. They became such fast friends.

I also started working in the office at IHBS. I was so thankful to have a normal schedule with normal hours!!

We took a couple of small trips. We went to Louisville with some friends and Florida with the boys and my parents.

We started out 2008 with some friends and had on idea this would be the year we would have our first baby!

Twenty-six:
A week after my 26th birthday I found out I was pregnant! It was April 23rd, 2007. I will never forget this day as long as I live. I had a dream the night before that I was pregnant. I took a test when I woke up, because I just had a feeling. To my surprise it was positive. Adam did not believe I was really pregnant and refused to believe me until we got home from work that day, and I took two more digital tests.

We made another trip to Florida when I was three months pregnant with my parents and the boys:)

Three weeks later Adam and I traveled to Seattle. It was our first flight together.  It was a horrible flight there and back for me. I was sick on the flights each time (probably because I was pregnant), but we ended up having a fun trip.

On July 30th we had an ultrasound and found out we were having a baby girl! We were both sure we were having a boy so we were both shocked. We were both thrilled. I am pretty sure Ella was named and I had her room decorated in my head before we walked out of the ultrasound room.

In September, Adam and I went to Gatlinburg for our last trip before Ella was born.

On December 12th, 2008 I said good-bye to the job I had worked at for the past four years. It was definitely bitter sweet. I had made some good friends there, and I was sad to leave them. I told them I was unsure if I would be back, but deep down I knew FOR SURE that I probably would never be back.

The night before I had Ella..12/18/08.

On December 19th, 2008 Ella Claire was born!

The birth of Ella unfortunately brought about a horrible infection for me. I won't go into detail, because I think this should be about happy things. I will say it was the WORST thing I have ever been through, and I hope I never have to deal with anything like that ever again!!

In March I had my last surgery and was in the hospital for four days. It was like a mini vacation this time around;)

Springtime brought about hope and happiness. I decided for sure that I was not going back to my job, and I was officially going to be a stay at home mom. I have not regretted this decision one time since then!

Twenty-seven:
I actually remember this birthday, because it was on Easter!

We took Ella on her first Florida vacation at 5 months old!

In June Autumn, Ella's cousin and best buddy, was born!!

We spent the rest of the summer watching Ella grow and develop. My life quickly became less about me and more about her!

Ella turned 1!

Twenty-eight

Five days after my birthday my best friend got married!! It was a great day. One I will never forget!

We traveled to Chicago in May. Adam had to go for some training for the week so Ella and I decided to tag along. It was a DISASTER! I don't think Ella or I got any sleep for the first two days. Someone refused to sleep so after two days of misery I packed Ella and I up, and we headed home.

A few weeks later we headed to Florida with my parents in hopes of a better trip. Unfortunately, Ella was not a fan of the sand, ocean, pool, or sleep for that matter. She was just not at a good age for this kind of trip. After a few days we decided to pack our things up and headed home early..AGAIN!

I celebrated my second mother's day!

Ella turned two!

Adam and I celebrated our 5th anniversary!

Twenty-nine:

That brings me up to date! I can honestly say that the past 9 years have been some of the best! I wouldn't trade the memories I have for anything in the world. I am definitely going to live up my last year as a "twenty-something."

TGIF

It was such a beautiful day today! We were definitely out enjoying the weather as much as we could.  This morning Ella and I met Leslie and Olivia at the zoo. Leslie and I about sweat to death pushing around the strollers, but we had a fun time!

I didn't realize how much Olivia has grown since the last time I had seen her until I looked at this picture. She has grown quite a bit and is looking more and more like her mommy everyday! :)

Tonight the in-laws took us out to eat for my birthday. Thank you!  We went to Hacienda, and it was yummy as usual! Ella was such a good girl while we ate, which always makes dinner so much more enjoyable.

Adam and I at dinner. I just realized tonight that we got engaged 6 years ago today! Awww!

It was such a fun Friday. I am looking forward to a day full of shopping with Alison tomorrow at the Edinburgh Outlets!!

Weekend Randoms

We had a nice, relaxing weekend. Those are my favorite! Here is what Ella did most of the weekend...

She could live in this swing. I am not even kidding! It's all she wants to do from the time she wakes up until she goes to bed. Lord help us!

Friday night we usually go out to eat, but this Friday we decided to stay home and order pizza. Aunt Lacey came over to hang out, play with Ella, and eat with us. I always enjoy a night at home. It's one of my favorite things to do.

Saturday morning we were outside by 9:30am. Ella was in her swing until 11:00 when daddy took over. I cut the grass while Adam and Ella went down to the lake and threw rocks. She really loves to do this. After Ella took a nap we dropped her off at my mom and dad's house since they offered to babysit while we went out to eat. We went to Dilegge's, and it was delicious! It's still my favorite place to eat even though we don't go there as often as we used to.

Sunday morning Ella had an appointment to get her picture taken at the Ties and Tutus special at Rowe Portrait Studio. They took her six month pictures, and they are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES. If you don't remember them here are a few to refresh your memory!

I will always love these pictures! They did/do a fantastic job, and I have been wanting to take her there ever since. It's no secret that Ella is not a fan of getting her picture taken. She tends to cry so I was expecting the worst today. It was only a 20 minute session so I thought maybe she could bare with it for that short amount of time. Ella ended up doing such a great job. She sat in a chair like a big girl and even cracked a few smiles. She was not thrilled about the frilly skirt,  but she did a great job! I can't wait to see them.

Since I recruited Lacey to go with me this morning we went back to her house and visited with Hank and Cloudy. Ella loves roaming around out there. Lacey lives at their grandma's old house. I wish she was still alive to see Ella roaming around. I know it would make her happy to see how much Ella loves it.

Once Ella was down for her nap I started making red velvet sandwich cookies. These things are to die for! Adam's dad and step mom (Poppy and Nana) and Lacey were coming over to eat pizza for Lacey's birthday. I use any excuse I can to make these cookies. They are delicious. Here is the recipe if you are interested in making them.

YUM-O!

We had Papa-John's pizza for dinner and these cookies for dessert. After dinner, Ella was chomping at the bit to go outside to swing, of course!

I am pretty sure Ella was in her swing for a good 1-2 hours this evening. I am surprised we even got her to come inside to go to bed. We have created a monster! :)

It was a fun weekend, but I am tired! Hope everyone had a great weekend too!
